NEW! - SINGLE SESSION WORKSHOPS

Afternoon or evening workshops!
Single sessions and low cost!
No experience necessary!
Workshops are designed to encourage individual artistic expression.

Class size: 2 to 4 students

1. Tree of Life - $45.
Learn basic glass cutting, foiling and soldering.
Create a copper foiled free form tree with assorted leaf colors. 
3 - 4 hours.

2. Sunburst - $45.
Learn basics plus straight cuts and create a free form radiating amber sun.
3 - 4 hours.

3. Quilt Squares - $45.
Design your own piece from precut squares and triangles.
3 hours.

4. Birds on a Branch - $35.
Using the ancient lead came technique, create a free form window art piece.
2 - 3 hours.

The class will cover the 2 basic techniques of lead and copper foil. Students will make 4 pieces including 2 simple freeform lead window pieces, 1 simple copper foil piece, and a rectangular copper foil panel. In order to complete all projects and get the maximum benefit of instruction, students should plan on doing work at home in between classes. Therefore, a suitable safe home work area should be prepared.

 

Students must wear long pants and closed shoes, as well as safety goggles. Safe work practices will be taught and practiced in the class. A mandatory safety and liability agreement must be read and signed.

 

The minimum age for participation is 14.

 

 A minimum of 2 people is required to hold a class, with a maximum of 4. Class may be cancelled and rescheduled at Karen’s discretion in order to fill the class.

 

Instruction cost:

 $300. includes instruction, tools and materials.
 
A non-refundable registration deposit of $50. will hold your place in the class. It will be returned if the class is not filled or cancelled. Balance of $250. due at first class.
 

Materials and Tools:

Everything you need to get started:
It will include an Inland 100 watt iron, iron holder, rheostat, grozing/breaking pliers, fid, bench brush, 12" L square, running pliers, 1 lb. 50/50 solder, flux, flux brush, black patina, 7/32" copper foil, finishing compound, cutter oil, grinding stone, black sharpie fine marker, liquid silver pilot marker, goggles and 3 - 8" square pieces of glass.

Additional Materials:

Extra glass and possibly some other items will be necessary and available to purchase as needed to complete your projects at an average cost of $20.to $60.
Major additional purchases such as a grinder can be ordered and must be prepaid.
 
Additional Tools:
Additional tool upgrades may be available for an additional cost.

Scheduling: 
5 - 2 hour classes or
One weekend of 2 full 5 hour days.
I am willing to schedule classes to your convenience.

Cost:
$300.
 
PRIVATE LESSONS
 
Cost is $45. per hour, minimum 2 hour session.  This is a a good way to refresh your skills if you have not done glass in a while, or if you have some experience and want to improve your skills.
 
Beginning private instruction is available with a minimum of 8 hours (4 - 2 hour classes or 2 - 4 hour classes) to be prepaid. Cost is $400. including tools and materials (see class list above).  Scheduling is very flexible.
This could also be done in a weekend. If you are visiting check availability of accomodations at Haven Guest House in Fair Haven or Edgewater Resort on Lake Bomoseen.

I have available limited supplies to sell. Contact me with specific requests and I will let you know if I can help you. I can sometimes take orders if timing is right. I do not keep regular studio hours - appointment only.  
 
 
INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED
INSTRUCTION
 
If there is interest, I am willing to schedule intermediate classes for 3-D projects.
