Color is my passion. I collect glass and sometimes wait for decades to hear it tell me what it should become. I love the way the play of light changes the appearance of glass. I am inspired by nature and enjoy elements of surprise and fantasy.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Karen retired in 2008 from owning Off the Wall Craft Gallery in Allentown, NJ. Deets has had a lifelong interest in all of the arts, but found her passion in craft media. Deets earned her way through college doing leather work which she continued until 1988. It overlapped with her pursuit of glass art, which she began in 1976, in the desire to find more permanency and color in her creations.
In 1980 Deets' work was featured in a NYC gallery show, where she was commissioned to create a series of large panels in the style of Chagall’s Jerusalem Windows. From 1977 to 2008, Deets work was sold exclusively at Off the Wall Craft Gallery in Allentown, NJ. Her current work incorporates some new techniques including fused glass, painted and fired glass.
Deets holds a degree in Art Education from TCNJ/Trenton State College. She left a short career as an elementary art teacher to become a full time
